Wow. How long did it take you to try and make money off of podcasting?
So, do you have any research that hypnotherapy actually works? I failed to see any cited on your website.
You might want to listen to my last podcast
http://rationalthought.podbus.com/
where I talk a little about medical hypnotherapy.

Brian,
Thanks for your comment. I listened to your podcast, it sounds like you had an interesting experience with medical hypnosis.
I have not done my own research to show that hypnotherapy actually works. And you did fail to see research cited on my web site.
There are numerous sources of great research on hypnotherapy all over the web. The purpose of my site is to give my clients more information about me and the work that we can do together.
As far as making money off of my podcast, I haven't tried to make money off of it yet. I really don't see podcasting as a money making opportunity right now. And I've turned down offers to make the podcast a fee subscription service.
My intent is to raise awareness of hypnotherapy and empower people to try self hypnosis and make positive changes in their lives.
As far as medical hypnosis goes, I'm not a licensed medical professional. I do not diagnose, prescribe, nor treat anyone. I can share that from my own personal experience I have used self hypnosis to lose weight, remove my own pain, and speed up my bodies natural healing process.
I work with many cancer patients, some with terminal diagnosis. My work has been around releasing fear, teaching deep relaxation, and healing visualization.
I am familiar with the concept of secondary gain. If you do a google search, you'll come across some interesting research on this. This is the real reason that a hypnotherapist probes into the upsides of illness for a client. The subconscious can have a great effect on the immune system and the bodies natural healing abilities. It is often essential to uncover the hidden benefits of an illness, or a negative behavior like smoking or compulsive eating and see that these subconscious needs and desires are met through other healthier means.
It sounds from your podcast that the medical hypnosis seminar you attended was versed on technique yet didn't have a very good grasp on the theory behind the technique.
I too am aware of hypnotherapist who claim 90 to 100% success rates in creating non smokers and in most cases their statistics are misleading.
Many hypnotherapist with high stop smoking success rates carefully screen clients on the issue and only work with those who are "ready" to quit.
I can say that 80 percent of my highly motivated ready to quit clients, quit smoking during hypnotherapy and go on to use hypnosis to make other changes in their lives. About 20 percent are able to defeat the hypnotherapy yet still experience personal growth and insight and considered the work of value.
In my early days of hypnotherapy I worked with several clients whose spouses or parents brought them in for hypnosis and paid for the sessions. None of them were able to or wanted to quit. I now only work with smokers who seek hypnotherapy on their own, and pay for it themselves.
The one aspect of hypnosis that still amazes me every time are the pain removal techniques. Most pain serves a purpose so I do not remove pain from clients who have not first sought out medical treatment. But if no purpose can be found, or the purpose is known, pain, even chronic pain, can be removed quickly and easily.
The Hypnotherapist who taught me his pain removal techniques is now working with Kaiser Permanente Health Care in California in a pilot pain removal program. If it is a success, Kaiser may end up hiring hundreds of hypnotherapists to specialize in removing pain removal. So far they are only referring patients to hypnotherapy who do not respond to drugs or who can not take drugs for pain.
Right now most HMO's and Medicare do not cover hypnotherapy unless it is done by a medical professional. There are doctors, dentists and psychiatrists who use hypnosis and are reimbursed for their services. But the majority of hypnotherapy is paid for directly by clients not insurance nor the government.
Will hypnosis cure your cold? Probably not. But it may make you more comfortable, it can help you really relax. Relaxation is good for the immune system and good for your bodies natural process of cold recovery.
One great use for hypnosis is to prepare for a surgery or a medical procedure. A study done not too long ago right here in my neck of the woods at the University of California medical Center in Sacramento showed that patience who participated in guided imagery exprecises (self hypnsosis) recovered faster from surgery than those who did not. Kaiser Hospitals now offer patients self hypnosis tapes to prepare for surgery. I have worked with many clients to help overcome the fear of surgery and prepare them mentally for the trauma of a surgical procedure.
It is unfortunate that you encountered a group of people teaching hypnosis who could not demonstrate to your satisfaction the effectiveness of hypnotherapy.
I hope you keep listening to my podcasts. Try the self hypnosis techniques I share and enjoy the opportunity to relax. At the very least you might experience a sense of relaxation that could help your body, and your mind cope with stress.
Thanks again for your comment.
Rick
